Spaghetti Bolognaise
(serves 4-6 )

500-800g mince beef (depending on how many to feed.)

2 large onions, chopped

200g pancetta (I use one packet of Aldi/Lidl pancetta that you buy in twos)

2 large garlic cloves

Salt, pepper, Italian seasoning

Tin Chopped tomatoes

500g Passata

Method
  1. Dry Fry Mince Beef in a wok/pan and drain off all the fat. (There will be loads!)
  2. Put mince in a bowl.
  3. Wipe all fat from Wok/Pan and add 2 lugs of Olive oil
  4. Add onion, garlic and pancetta to pan and fry for a few minutes until onions are soft.
  5. Add back Mince to pan and add tin of tomatoes and 500g passata.
  6. Season with salt and pepper and a tablespoon of Italian seasoning.
  7. Transfer to slow cooker on medium for 4/5 hours- it will wait for you.

The Slow Cooker

This is one of the most useful pieces of equipment in my lovely kitchen. I use this for all sorts of recipes- Spaghetti Bolognese, Chilli, Stew, Cooking a whole chicken, etc. If I am baking a steak pie I cook the inside of the pie in the slow cooker before I transfer it to the pastry. As it cooks things slowly it does involve a bit of planning, but the beauty of this is that if you are not sure what time members of the family will need to eat the dish will happily sit until everyone arrives without the risk of burning or over cooking. The flavours of your dish are brought out by the slow cooking and  the slow cooker takes very little power.

About Me

Hi my name is Salli Marsden and I would like to share with you my passion for cooking- not your fancy stuff but everyday cooking for the family. I like nothing better than to be in my kitchen.. whether it be  lunch, dinner, cakes or bread and I affectionately refer to my kitchen as 'my empire'...
My great passion is bread and I try to make time to bake my own as it is so easy and so much better than shop bought stuff. I also love kitchen gadgets and will hopefully share with you some information of those that I cannot live without !
